KAITUNA BOWLING CLUB.

The annual meeting of the Kaituna, Bowling Club was held in the Jubilee Hall, Alvai street, last evening.' There was a' largo attendance of members, and -the president (Mr G. B. Dall) was in the chair. Apologies for absenoe were forwarded by Messrs A. W. Stables, R.' W, Claiton, J. H. Walker and C. S. Spaul. -,;

The following is a summary of the annual report, which wa3 read by the Secretary (Mr J. Park Smith):-

In presenting the report, for the paat season, your committee feel that they can congratulate members on a very successful and enjoyableyear. Although not -blessed' with a bowler's summer, many keen and-interesting games wero fought out. Tho games between the various clubs to decide who should be tho holders of the N,Z,BA. bannor : for the ensuing season proved very interesting. The Dunedin Club proved the victors, losing, only one match, while the Kajtunn, Club was well up, having lost two games—namely) against Dtmedra and Taieri. A club single • championship ' was initiated during the past seison, 20 members entering for the contest, and.provided many well-fought gomes 'and olose' finishes. The pride of place was secured by G.'B. Dall; the (retiring president, who won 17 games, ,Mr Sneddon filling second place with 16 games, and Mr Paterson third with .15 games. The Colour matches, whioh formerly proved suoh. a source' of enjoyment, were not nearly so keenly, contested as in previous years,' due no doubt to -the Championship .Singles taking up such i, lot of time, and jo the bad weather pre; vailing during the greater-part of. the season. The club trophies, to be presented at the'rnoeting, have been won by'the following gentlemen;— President's prize, Mr ft'W. Eeidj.Vicepresidont's prize, Mr Connell; directors' prize, Mr T. Sutcliffe; pairs, Messrs Connell (skip) and Walker; rinks—Messrs H. W'Reid"(skip), J. Sanders, jun., T. Sutcliffe, ■ and A. W. Stables; chanipion of thftfclub, Mr a. B. Dall; second champion of the club, Mr Sneddon. The club was well represented at the Christchurch, Osmaru, and Invercargill tournaments. ..Mr Sneddon carried off third prize in the Singles at •Christchuroh, and Mr Dall's rink—with, whom were associated .Messrs C; T. Paterson, J. P, Smith, and Lindsay-secured second prize at.Oamoru, while Mi J. Sanders, jun„ carried off third prize at Invercargill. Your committee fed that they can congratulate inombera on tho successful gamo played pn Anniversary Pay, which again took the form-'of a progres-. siye rink match; and they: hope that the match will become an annual'fixture: On the cards being handed in it-was found that Mr Martin had gained first prize and Mr Taylor second. Your committee beg-to report that the subject of weeds has been given very catoful consideration during the season, and, acting under the ''advice of experts,, they have laid down a, quantity: of garden, salt on the part affected "with bid-a-bid. The committee feel that it is hardly necessary to remind members of the condition .in whioh our caretaker (Mr Hollingwortb) has kept tho green, notwit.hsianding.the many diffiV culties ho has had to contend with. The club has to thank Mrs Rejd for having again undertaken the arduous duties of arranging' for tia sfternpon teas; and the- other ladies who' so kindly citnie- forward and provided the Your'committee ■ regret having to notify the club that an esteenred member (Mr James Rattray) has found it .necessary to resign, and the committee unanimously recommend that in, consideration of the many valuable rendered by Mr Rattray, to.ther clnb m the pas{, he be elected a life member. The Chairman, in moving the adoption of the report and balance sheet, said he thought members might bo fairly congratulated -upon the balance sheet submitted to the meeting. The details were fully set out, and the -only' ■part lie need refer.-to was that they practically had a surplus on the year's doings of £20. .This, .lie thought,, was a satisfactory, position. The report really gave a.full. Recount of the doings of the club for the past year,' and lie did not think left, much for him.-to say.. They were all awarb that the weather during the past season was not the' best they might have had- for bowling, but, notwithstanding this, it was very gratifying to find the keen interest members had taken in tho. game. They had had a splendid attendance on the grocn during both the eyoningj and the Saturday; afternoons, which went to show that members were quite alive to the gvand old game of bowls.: The games for tho- club's trophies wero all ,vory well contested, and the winners were to be congratulated upon tho form, they displayed." The singlo-bafided championship waa a new feature at Kailuna, and nt) doubt produced some good contests, but it might be advisable for the incoming committee to consider some different method of conduotihg the championship, on account of the length of time occupied in each player meeting every other, playor. In tho olub matches he' thought thoy -might claim to bpve been fairly _ successful. They had not managed to bring the pennant, to Kailuna, but they had -only suffered too "defeats. In referring to the tournaments, he said they were aware • that there wore- so many competitors at a tournament -that it ; was something to. be proud of to bring home a tropliy. With regard to Mr Rattray, he was sure the recommendation of the oommittee would meet with entire approval, for they all rogrettcd Mr Rattray's resignation. They had had a, good doal of trouble with the bid-a-bid, but thoy had riven them.two doses of "physic," and had now put on lime to "dry their bones," and he believed their epitaph was in band, so that they might look forward to a good green in the coming seas On. Mr O, S. Paterson sjconded. the adoption of the report aud balance sheet,- which,' after somo slight discussion, was.oarried. The Tennip Cbmmittee'n report, which was adopted on the motion of Mr C..J. Payne, stated that the membership had increased, and now stood at 43 gentlemen and 41 ladies. The subscriptions were, £7 in exeoss cf last year.. In the Saturday afternoon matches, promoted by tho association, the c]ub came second. At the annual tournamont the Ladies' Championship Singles was won by Miss L. Livingstone; Ladies' Handicap Singles, Miss L. Livingstone; Combined Handicap Doubles, Miss Graham and Mr P. Haggitt; and 1 . Men's Handicap Doubles, Messrs Haggitt and' Paterson. In the club matches Moests S. Brown, and P. Braithwaite won' tho Men's Handicap Doubles, and Miss L. Livingstone the Ladies' Champion Singles. .The top court had been relaid during the year with a properly covered drain, at a cost of #3. After paying. all debts there was a credit balance of £5 10s 2d, while there were no liabilities, and all mijiScriptions had been paid, !

Tho election of office-bearers resulted as follow:—President, Mr 0. J. Payne; viceipresidpnt, Captain Sundstrom; ispcjetary awl .treasurer, Mr J. Park Smith; auditor, Mr W. Forrester; General Committee—Mcrsre (i. B. Dall (separately elected),' S. W. Smith, P. 0. Corliss, Wv'Taylor, J. A.'Haslet*, C. T. Paterson, and D. M'Pheison; Matdi Committee—Messrs G. B. Dall. and 0. J. Payne'; delegates (o th'o as?ociation-r-Mcesrs o,'B. r Dall ahd.J. Park, Smith; mid Green'Committee—Messrs 0. J: Payne, D. M'Phcrsoii, and• "W". Taylor. ~( . Mr Pnte'riran said it had been decided a year ago -that no life mbmbevs should lift appointed, exebptfor services rendered. Hq thought tltey-' could very well propepe that' Mr .Tame? Rattray'be electeda life member. Mr Rattray had always been, a very active member of the club, and 'had'taken great interest in it. Ho had, besides, never rofused a donation to t)io club,-and had been very generous in making-'the plantation at the end of the tennis court. He moved that—" In consideration of the sen-ices'ren-dered to the club from time to time hy Mr James Rattray, ho be elected a life member of the club.'.'—Seconded by Mr C. R. .Smith and carried,'.unanimously.

The trophies won during the past Mason were ■then presented by the Chairman, after which a pleasant hour was spent in" social intercourse. , . .
