Tho South Dunedin Borough Council hold its fortnightly meeting on Monday evening, when there were presenilis Worship the Mayor (Mr J. Chetwin), Crs Allen, Baird, Shaddock, Sonicitviilc, Fleming, and Piddis. I Tho Department of Pioads wroto cpnccrniag the allocation of tho £303 voted for use on Anderson's Bay road. Of the amount, £240.had been authorised as under:—South Dunedin Borough Council, £125; Caversbam. Borough Council, £60, and £40 to be paid later; St, Kilda, Borough Council, £15.—1t was resolved that tho Mayor interview Mr Sidey with reforeiico to Anderson's Bay Toad, and that tho town ; clerk writo to Mr ATellor with reference to the ■: same. I The Caversham Council wroto declining tho request to pay half tho cost of lighting the existing lamps on' Cargill road.—Received. Messrs Briscoe and Co. wroto staling, tho price of tar to bo 25s Cd per cask.—lt was iesolved that sufficient be purchased for the com- . pletion of the 'footpaths. | The Bank of New Zealand.. requested the ' council to pass the usual resolution to borrow, and it was resolved that tho resolution .to borrow by way of overdraft from 'the Bank of . New Zealand 6o passed. ' ; *An invitation from the South Dunedin Fire ! Brigade asking the council to bo present at the i opening of the Bell Tower on Tuesday was re- ' ceiyed. j Correspondence from Mi H. Baron, on behalf of It. W. Alexander, and from Messrs CalI vert and Brugh, on behalf of Mr J. Jones, with j reference to water pipes .running through the properties of these gentlemen were read.—lt was resolved that the inspector bs authorised to attend to the matter complained of. '. Mr J. Rankin, returning officer, wrote stating that Thomas Fjddis,' James Fleming, Andrew Knowles, and William AVardrop had been nominated to rcpraent East Ward on the coun- . oil. and, as they did not exceed the. number required,.they had been duly elected. He also notified that the election of mayor and councillors for South. West, aud North Wards would tako place on Wednesday, 29th inst. The Finance Committee recommerfded that accounts amounting to £350 bo passed for payment, and reported the bahuico of the several accounts to be as under:—General (debit), £356 3s 8d; water (credit), £233 17s Id; s&nfery (credit), £103 Gs td; interest (debit), £581; general loan (credit), £376 1353d.-The report' , was adopted, and the meeting adjourned.
