PORTOBELLO ROAD BOARD.

I The monthly meeting of tho Portobcllo Road Board, held on Saturday, was attended by, Messrs W.- Dickson (chairman), Geary, Bacon, North, Seaton, and Milne. Tenders- were opened for supplying 1000 yards of metal for Wicktiff Bay and 300 yards for North-East Harbour. That of- Mr J. Granger being the lowest for contracts Nos. 4, 5, ard 6 was accepted; Mr Collins securing No.-3 contract. W. D. Wright was the successful tenderer for breaking 100 yards at tho Cemetery, North-East Harbour. No tender was received for breaking 200 yards metal at Uie Beach road. The inspector was instructed to let, a contract if opportunity offered. The inspector's report as a wholo was adopted. He reported on the road to Block IV, Otago Peninsula, and Mr J : Dickson appeared to object to any work being : done on the road, as the existing road was in, , the wrong position. The adjourned debate re the erection of a swing gate on the road leading to Mr Nyhon's property in Block VI, Otago peninsula, was resumed, when it was resolved that tho application of Messrs Diokson Bros, for the erection of a swing gate he declined. Mr Dickson then asked that the road bo defined, and it was decided to comply with the request. Mr Townlcy wrote stating that as a bull belonging to him was being driven along the Hooper s Inlet road the animal got into a mud hole, and he had to sell it at a loss. He asked for compensation for the loss.—The letter was received.~W. Frances's application to have the metal now lying on Leith walk broken andi spread was left in the hands of the inspector. Ho was also instructed to get 200 yards of metal for the road between S. Gill's and Winton's Main road-, and 200 yards for the east side of Hooper's Inlet. A number of accounts were passed for payment.
