THE MOON AND THE WEATHER
THE CYCLE THEORY DISCREDITED. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright MELBOURNE, April 16. (Received April 16, at 8.30 a.m.)
Professor Gregory disparages Mr Russell's cycle theory. He says that the scientists at the Greenwich Observatory had made a special study of the question, and had records extending over a century. They found, after an exhaustive analysis, that 110 connection whatever could bo established between changes of the moon and climatic conditions, as far as the northern hemisphere was concerned. At the same time, the Professor declares it has been established, practically beyond doubt, that there are weather cycles in the northern hemisphere, extending over a period of from 33 to 36 years. While it is very probable that the oyclo theory is not confined to the northern hemisphere, it would be very unprofitable to seek in changes of the moon an explanation of the wet and dry spells in Australia.
