ASHBURTON AMATJSUR ATHLETIC CLUB'S SPORTS. Tho . Ashburton A.C. and A.A.C. held its ennual snorts meeting on Easter Monday on the Domain. The weather did not look too promising in tho early morning, but towards noon brightened considerably, and dried the track' for first-class racing. Tho following officers worked very hard throughout the meeting:—Mr VI. Anderson, ion. secretary; and Messrs G. Dickinson, E. T. Righton, K. G. Shearman, and A. Anderson (press stewards). Every event was got off well up to time, and, taking the meeting a!! round, it was good. The attendance of tho public was estimated at about 1000; £10 Is being taken at the gate. The following arc the results:—

One-mile Flat Handicap.—H. Fleck, 130 yds, 1; J. Murphy, 180 yds, 2; E. G. Pickles, 205 yds, 3. Time, 4miri 42sec. Murray, who was virtually scratch man, had no chance whatever, and a very poor race \m witnessed in this event, as all the competitors were treated too leniently by the handicapper. It is a long time since a handicap of 205 yds has been given. There should he a limit to the distance events, making it hot more than 130 yds. Half-mile Flat Handicap.—G. A. Martin, 75yds, 1;' B. Culverhouse, 30yds, and W. C. Hart, 102 yds,' tied for second place. Time, 2min 5 1-asec. Eight started, Halt way round the second lap Hart, Martin, and l?eid pulled away from the others. Martin, Culverhouse, and Hart were left to fight out the finish, the fornler winning by three yards.

100 yds Flat Handier-First heat: Z. W. Mason, Byds, 1; W. Woods, 4yds, 2. Time, 10 2-sscc. Second heat: W. Anderson scratch, 1; E. Carsdon, fiyds, 2. Time, 10 l-ssec. Third heat: A. G. Price, 1; A. Hoars and 11. S. Williams tied for second place. Time, 10 l-ssec, Final heat: A. Hoare, 7yds, 1; TV. Anderson, scratch, 2; J. W. Mason, Byds, S. Time, 10 l-ssec.

220 yds Plat Handicap.—First heat: A. JToarc, 10yds, 1; J. "Walker, Iyd, 2. Time, 24sec. Hoare iron easily all the way. Second heat: V. Anderson, scratch, 1; H. H. Fraser, 3yds, 2. Final heat; H. H. Fraser, Byds, 1; A. Hoare, 10yds, 2; \V. Anderson, scratch; 3. A. Hoare led until halfway up the straight, when Fraser cut in on the inside, and put HoaTo'right out of it for first place. Time, 22 1-osoc.

440 yds Handicap.—J. W. Price, 19y'ds, 1; A. Hoare,. ISyds, 2,. Time, 53 l-ssec. This was ono of the best races of the day..'. Sixteen started, alt keeping within a few yards of one aiicther, Fricj and. Hoare (Dunedin) pulled away from the bunch about 30 yards from home, and breasted the tape all out.

Steeplechase. Three miles.—W. H. Jones, 75yds, 1; H. C. Murray, 03yds, 2; "W. Lawrence, 195 yds, 3. No time taken. This race was the last item on the programme, and was run on the outside of the track. Five hurdles wore placed on 'the track. The course had to be run nino limes around, making in all 45 hurdles to bo jumped by the scratch man. With ons hip to go, W. H. Jones (75vds), Murray (scratch), and AY. T. Cobblodiek (200 yds) were left to fight out the finish. One hundred yards from home Jones pnt on a great spurt, pulling away from H, C. Murray, and winning by 10 yards,
