Mr D. A. Do Mans has acceded to the request of a deputation of ratepayers, and will bo a candidate for' the mayoralty of Port Chalmers.
At tho meeting of the Hoßoilal Trußt-ees yeslwday, the Chaimnn (Mr P." Miller) intimated that he was leaving for England early next month, and would 1)5 absent for at least five months. Under the circumstances ho thought the interests o£ the Hospital would be best served if he resigned the chairmanship, especially as the next election would he close at hand when ho returned. The trustees, however, would not hear of Mr Miller resigning, and unanimously granted him the necessary leave oi absence, and appointed Mr "Will acting chairman. A New Plymouth message Toperts that Mr F. L. Webster, who arrived in the second ship in 1841, and was formriy engaged in the flonr milling trade, and latterly as agent for the Kew Zealand Shipping Company, is dead, aged G5 years. The deceased served-in the Maori war, gaining the New Zealand war medaj. He was mad", captain of the volunteers in 1661.
