(Received Mnrch 21, at 9.50 a.m.) The Board of Health has issued regulations for the use of preservatives in food founded on and closely following tho recommendations contained in the report of the committee appointed by •the British Local Government Board to inquire into the subject. THE LAWSON BANKRUPTCY. March 22. (Received March 22, at 5.14 p.m.) The heaving of tlio examination in bankruptcy of Lawson, the mining engineer, formerly of New Zealand, has been adjourned till Wednesday. MAJOR-GENERAL HUTTON. (Received Mnrch 23, at 1.7 a.m.) A rumour was current here to the effect that Major-general Hutton had resigned his position ns commander of the forces owing to political interference with his reorganisation of the defences. Major-General Hutton emphatically denies that ho has any intention to resign. He states that at no period since ho assumed command has there been so much hope for the successful issue of his scheme of reorganisation as now.
