ALBANY STREET SCHOOL PICNIC.

The annual picnic in connection with tho Albany Sheet School was lielcl yesterday. The morning was so bright and warm as to induce quite a number of parents and friends of the scholars to avail themselves ot the opportunity afforded of spending a day in the country, and as the train moved away from Pelichet Bay station at 9.15 a.m. it carried about GO'J enthusiastic pleasure-seekers, young and old, to the favourite grounds at Evansdale. Tea was in readiness soon after arrival at the ground, and the whole hillside ws quickly dotted with little parties as they gathered around their baskets and hampers to partake of a hearty lundhcon. Unfortunately about midday the sky became overcast, ami for a short time the rain interfered with the committee's arrangements. The usual picnic games were heartily entered into, and ninny of tho races were watched with special interest. The School Championship (120 yds), after a. scries of seven heats, resulted as follows:— 11. Eogarty 1, G. Dempster 2, A. Komeril and A. Fisher (dead heat) 3. This event was keenly contested, and heartily enjoyed by the spectators, and at the final there was only about 2ft between the four competitors. The whole of the school stafl was in attendance, while Jlr Hodge (head master), Messrs M'Laren, Nicholson, Uttley, and the following representatives of tho committee—Messrs A. Dempster, W. E. Smith, and J. 11. Wilkinson—did all that was possible to contribute to (he day's enjoyment. The tiain arrangements were very satisfactorily carried out, Guard James and his assistant (Mr.Heppcnbergcr) being very careful yet cheerful in the discharge of their responsible duties, The committee arc indebted to the following for donations:— Messrs t). G. Shepherd, Irvint and Stevenson, li. Hudson, and Mr Hodge foi lollies;. K. "Wilson and Co. for tea; W. Scoulai and Co. for sugar; and Jlr J. W. Buller for toys.
