BOROUGH COUNCIL MEETINGS.

«s>_ „ MORNINGTO& • Tho regular meeting ot the Morningtoii 1 Borough Council was held last evening, thero being present—The Mayor (Mr Qow), Crs Grigg, Anderson, Reynolds, "Wills, Carotin, Sneddon, Wood', and Miller. Mr W. R. Jeffreys wrote with regard to a fence in front of his premises.—Post and wire fence to be erected. Mr T. G. Scoular forwarded a plan of further subdivision of part of sections G1 and 02, block VI, Town and a sketch of tho proposed new road. He desired to know what conditions would bo imposed if the plan was proceeded with. If the council desired to continue that part of the proposed new road parallel with Elgin road right through his property he would give the necessary land.— Referred to the Works Committee with power to arrange, and to report to council. Messrs Bathgate and Woodhouse wrote that Mr Watson had decided not to comply with, tho requirements of .the borough, and therefore withdrew his application for the sanction of a proposed right-of-way.—Received. . Mr C. Lambournd wrote with regard to tho levels of Havelock street and Hawthorn road, and stated that tho filling-in had been started at tbo corner of Mr Lind's property, and gained! 12 inches by the time it reached his place.—To bo informed that tho matter had been tTiomitt«t to tile surveyor, who reported that the road was not filled above the permanent level pointed out by him. Mr A. P. Cargill wrote with regard, to a drain running between his property and Mr Tennet's, in Elgin road.—Referred to the Works Committee. Mr D. Henderson wrote with regard to water getting into his cellar.—Referred to the Works Committee. Mrs Clancy wrote drawing attention, to tho state of a drain through her property.—Referred to the Works Committee. Mr S. A. Scott wrote asking that some screenings might be placed on a. newly-formed patli in Preston crescent—Referred to the Works Committee. Mr W. S. Tennet wrote drawing attention to the unsatisfactory state of the street drainage in front of his sections and residence, Elgin read.—Referred to the Works Committee. Mr G. H. Robinson wrote asking that some rotten rock or metal might be put dorni in Hawthorn road and Randall avenue,-Referred to the Works Committee. Tho Finance Committee recommended tho payment of accounts amounting to £219 Cs lid. —Adopted. The Engineer, in reporting on various works dene in tho borough, stated that work on the Mill road was being pushed on by tho contractor, who expected to have 40 men on during the present week—(Tho Mayor explained that the contract for tho Mil! road had been let for £750.)— Fifty-six loads of asphalt had been mixed in the council's yard, and 200 yards of rock quarried from Appold street quarry. Eighty-five yards of stone had been carted, and broken on Hawthorn roaij.—Noted. It was resolved, in respect to an addition to a building in Patrick street, that, it be an 'instruction to the General Committeo to take steps to enforce the borough by-law. It was also resolved that the City Fire Brigade b? thanked for their voluntary services at tho recent disastrous fire in Moniington, and that a contribution of £10 bo made to tho funds of the brigade. The mover (Cc Wood) suggested that a letter of thanks should also be forwarded to Captain Mitchell. It was further resolved that the- clerk notify the City Council that the Mornington Borough Conned gratefully acknowledge tho services of "iiicir Fire Brigade at the samo fire; also that the donation made he mentioned. Cr Wood gave notice of motion that the sum of £5 be voted towards the funds of tho Technical Schools as rn acknov/ledgmcnt of tho benefit a large number of tho young people of the district had received. WEST HARBOUR, The ordinary meeting of the West Harbour . Borough Council was held last evening, 'there being present—Tho Mayor (Mr F. G. and Crs Ross, Duncan, Larnach, Barker, Chisholm, Curie, Greenslade, O'Donnell, and George. Mrs Jessie White wrot} asking for tho remission ot the rales on her properly at Rothesay.— It ivan resolved that the Hatter should bo inquired into. A. Tait, secretary of tho Hopo of Ravensbourne Lodge, 1.0.G-.T., wrote requesting that the rent of the hall should bo reduced.—Received. t A. Bambery forwarded ti number of com- ' plaints in jegard to the trespassing of cattle and horses on tho roads'of the borough, and'it was decided that the ranger should inquire into the matter and report to the council. A communication was received from tho town clerk of Duncdin, stating that tho City Council would pay one-third of tho cost of tho Logan Point bridge. Other correspondence from tho Public Wotks Department was also laid on tho table—lt was resolved that tho ' bridge should be proceeded with as soon as the money was available. Tho Hon. W. C. Walker (for tho Postmastergeneral) wrote stating that a post offico would bo opened at St. Leonards; also a telophono office, should tho number of subscribers warrant it.—Received. Tho Financo Committeo reported that the balance in hand within the statutory overdraft amounted to £53 3s 3d.. Accounts amounting to £22 10s 7d had been passed for payment.— Approved. . The Inspector' 3 report, after detailing the . works that had been carried out siuco tho last meeting, recommended that tho culvert at Burkes, which had broken down, should be repaired.—The recommendation was agreed to. The Works Committeo recommended that £50 should be spent in metalling the road' between Logan's Point and Blanket Bay Tho roport was adopted.
