THE NEW COLONIES.
THnl IMPORTATION OF STOCK. ' THE BURGHER CAMPS. Press Association—By Telegraph-Copyright. LONDON/ Maroli 3. (Receiver March 3, at 10.32 p.m.) A Blue Book dealing with the question of land settlement and the' restocking of farms in the Transvaal and Orangia has been published. Lord Milner, in a despatch dated Dcccmber 22, says that though the Transvaal is adapted for stock-raising, probably nowhere is it harder to acclimatise imported stock, and it would be a pity to send pedigree stock to South Africa in any quantity until there is reasonable prospect that they will be able to survive the climato and change of pasture. On February 16 there wore 141 occupants of the burgher camps in the Transvaal and 490 in Orangia—mostly destitute women and children and aged and infirm persons. There are 370 land settlers iu tne Transvaal and 362 in Orangia.
