CLEARING SALE.
I One of tho most successful clearing sales held in tho North Otago district was conducted on Thursday lsst by the National Mortgage I and Agency Company of New Zealand (Limited), when they disposed of tlu whole of the valuable horses, dairj cows, implements, plant, etc., on Whitcstono Estate, on account of Mr W. C. Clark. Tho fact of this being virtually an unreserved s?.le, in consequence of Mr Clark having sold his farm, no doubt helped largely towards the success of the Eale. The horses were in excellent working trim, aiid good prices were obtained for them. The four-year-old gelding Duke fell to the bid of Messrs Bradley Bros. "(Taipo Hill) at £52; bay gelding Lion, secured by Mr George Livingstone, at £51 10s; by gelding Major, Messrs J. and A. Dalgleish at £50; hay gelding Prince, Mr A. Kernohan at £15; grey mare Nance, Mr Norman Gray (of Waimata) at £42 10s; bay gelding Billy, Mr A. Ecdgers at £35. A few aged draught horses brought from £35 down to £20. Unbroken colts and Tillies sold from £15 up to £32 10s. The demand for first-class dairy cows iB still very Itceu, almost record prices being obtained, sales being made from £7 10s up to £12. Two-year-old heifers, in calf, brought from £5 to £G, and for young cattle in proportion. The large quantity of well-kept implements was disposed of at prices which could not' fail to bo very satisfactory to the vendor. The sheep were not sold however, farmers being disposed to hold off, evidently until tho time for clearing their stubble draws neai. INVESTMENT STOCKS., Sales were made on tho Dunedin Stock Exchange yesterday as follows:—New Zealand Drug (£2 paid), £2 9s Gd.
