OTAGO SUNDAY SCHOOL UNION.
The effort put forth by tho executive of tho Otago Sunday School Union to establish a normal training college for Sunday school teachers was amply justified by the I large number who assembled last evening ] in tho Congregational Church Hall, Moray • place, over 200 teachers and senior scholars i being present. In the absence of tho Rev. J T. 6. Brooke (president of the union), tho ■ Rev. G. Hoighway occupied the chair, and, I ofter opening with prayer, outlined what \ 'had led up to the formation of the class, and ; thon he introduced Mr George 8011, who : will be the lecturer during tho present year. ' ! Mr Bell was greeted with a_ hearty round ' ■•] of applause, and his preliminary remarks i were characterised by conspicuous earnest- • ness. Almost from the outset he put him--1 self on good terms with the studqnts, at the same timo impressing them "with tho ■ necessity of working faithfully and -clili- ■ gently throughout the ttro sessions. Hβ 1 I urged them to be punctual and regular in, 1 i attendance, and also to make careful pre- ' ' paration for each lecture-night. Judging by ! tho applause which was bestowed throughout 1 there is'every probability that those who i' handed in their namos have determined to ' i do tlioir very best to comply with Mr Bell's [! wishes. Next Monday will see tho oollege in full working order, and the various Sun- ' day schools represented will no doubt feel the benefit as time goes on. ' I ■- ' . j
