SMALL GRAZING RUNS.
I TO THE EDITOR, ! fitn,—Last Wednesday ton of the Hig'iCold runs were keenly competed for at the Land OKiee, as many as 201 applicants being in for one run alone, and 1 am confident that had there been 100 runs of the same class open for selection, inftead of 10, thoy would nil havo been taken lip. Suroly this will be an eye-opener to the Government. Mr Soddon'r. policy is to-settle the country, and it is high timo somothing waß done in Central Otago so as to let the rising generation get a chance to settle and make homes for themselvos in their own district. Thore are large areas' in Central Otago, at present hold by station-owners, which are admirably adapted for cutting up into small grazing runs of, eay, 2000 or 3000 acres in extent. If sufficient land wore thrown open to allow cach settler to get a block, it would prevent a lot of our vounjr men going further i afield to settle down.—l am, etc., Settle Down.
