CASUALTIES.

(Fkoji Onii OWN Oorrespondsht.) ALEXANDRA, February 28. A man named Andrew Wood, a resident of the district since the early days, dropped daad on the Alexandra bridge yesterday evening. Death resulted from failure of the heart, and an inquost.is deemed unnecos- i sary. In the 'hurdle race at. Wilson) fortunately escaped with e a bud shaking and a few bruises, though s " he did not feel well enough to ride again e during tho afternoon. The horse rolled over Wilson, who would certainly have been i- seriously injured if lie had not fallen on y tho ploughed ground. 0 A serious accident occurred at Port Olialn mcrs on Saturday morning shortly after 8 o'clock, when by some means a man named n John Greig, who was working at the graving 5 dock, fell off -the staging round the vessel e to tho bottom of the dock, a depth of about 30ft. The poor fellow was promptly 'picked e up, and found to bo quite unconscious. Ho '■ was taken to the Union Company's premises * and attended by Dr Borrie, who found that lie had received a severe wound on the head and was suffering from concussion of the brain. He ordered the sufferer to be taken to the Dunedin Hospital, where ho was still 1 unconsoious at an early hour this morning. n ■
