DUNEDIN RIFLE CLUB.

The annual meeting of the Dunedin Rifle Club was held last evening in the B. Battery's orderly room. Mr 0. Speight occupied the chair, and there were about 12 gentlemen present. The following is the substance of the annual report read: : — In bringing forward/their report for the past season your committee have to congratulate members on the increased interest taken in shoot-ing. Tho att2xldar.ee at the range on Saturdays has been exceedingly satisfactory, and the shooting of some of the members of a very high order—notably, Mr Speight, who put on a record for Dunedin of 100 at 800, COO, and GOO yards; and Mr it. G reonslade, who mads 97 in each of his last three shoots at the same ranges. Seventeen men represented the club at tho Otago Rifle Association, and most of them got into the prize-list. Two members represented tho club at I,ho New Zealand Rifle Association's meeting, but ware not very successful. During the season the club, owing to the assistance of Messrs Millar and Arnold, M.H.R.'s, were enabled to purchase 25 MartiniEnfield Trifles from the Government, and the club lias to thank Mr Speight for financing the affair. The club has to thank the following for generously presenting prizes:—Messrs C. F. Greenslade, Shaw, Speight, M'Carthy, Montgomery, Lyders, Holler, and the committee. The several prizes were won as follows: —Mr GrsensJade's prize by Mr Tonkin, witli Mr Gillan second and Mr Proudfooi third; Mr Shaw's prize by Mr Hardie, Messrs Lyders and Proudfoot tying for second place; Mr Speight's prize by Mr M'JTatly, with Mr Proudfoot second and Mr Hardic third; Mr M'Carthy's and secretary's prizes by Mr Gillnn and Mr Hutchinson respectively; Mr Montgomery's prize by Mr Proudfoot, with Mr Speight second and Mr Bannerman third; Mr Lyders's prize by Mr Greenslade, with Mr Montgomery second and Mr Speight third; Mr Moller's prize by Mr Speight, with Mr Proudfoot second and Mr Hardie third. , Mr Speight also won the championship, with Mr Montgomery second and Mr Hardie third. A sweepstake match was also'fired to wind up the swison, Mr R. Greenslade being first, Mt Proudfoot .second, and Mr Mobs (a visitor) third. Two team matches were fired during the season. The first, against tho Dunedin City Guards, was won by the club by VI points; the second, against the ])iinediu City Guards and the Kaitangata Kiile?, the Guards beating the club by 14 points, and the club boating the Kaitangata men by 21 points. In conclusion, your committee hope that the incoming season may prove as successful as the one jtist past. ■ Tho balance sheet showed a small defieiqncy, which was accounted for by a heavy expenditure on tho range (including the erection of new targets), and-tho loss on ammunition, which is supplied to members at less than east. On the motion of Mr Hardie, seconded \w Mr Gillan. the report and balance s-heet were adopted. • It was derided to make a levy of 2s 6d on old members to wipe oIF the deficiency in thfi treasury.
