(Pkr United Pkess Association.) ' AUCKLAND, August 31. The body of Jessie Smith, an elderly wo.man, was found in a tank at the back of' her house at Te Aroha on Saturday. After deceased disappeared, a week ago, search parties: were out, but the tank was overlooked. The woman came out of tha lunatio asylum shortly before her diflap pearance. . ' . An in- ' quest was held, when a verdict of accidental death was returned. . ' 1 BLENHEIM, August .30. An inquest was held to-day on the man John Aldrid'ge, of Picton, who collapsed while uiider chloroform for a surgical opera tion. A verdict of death from syncope, no blame being attachable to the doctors, was returned. ;; : WESTPORT, August 31. Joseph Kennedy, who sustained very severe injuries through' an accident on the Millertqn incline , on Friday, when he was jammed by a, runaway truck filled with coal, died in the hospital last i.'ight. • . . .. ASHBURTQN, August 31.. On Saturday night about 9 o'clock Peter Rattray, a dairyman at Trevarton, a suburb of Ashburteai, and an old resident, fell down in •'the street,near his house and expired before a doctor arrived. It is supposed the cause was apoplexy. He had been complaining about pains in the head of late, but otherwise'was in his usual health, arid following his avocation. An 1 inquest will be held on Monday. *
