Company received a cable • on Saturday stating that the firo in one of the "bunkers of the company's new steamer Aparima was still smouldering. The coal was being put out to get- at the se.it of tho trouble. The fire was confined to small limits, and the captain hoped to. be able to resume the voyage on Tuesday. j The s.s. Petone, from tho West Coast with a cargo of coal, arrived on Saturday morning, and was berthed at tho Jetty street wharf. ; The s.s. Corihna took her departure for j tho West Coast oil Saturday morning. I The "s.s. Toroa_ left for Lyttelton early on Saturday morning. The s.s. Petone sailed for Wellington on Saturday evening. The ship Patterdale, which left Newcastle, N.S.W., with % cargo of coal on March 24 for Iquique, is regarded as hopelessly overdue, and is uninsurable. 71io ship Nelson left Glasgow on August 3 for Dunedin and Wellington. The Union Steam Ship Company's Monowai, Captain R. Neville, with 81 passengers and cargo, from Sydney, via Cook Strait, arrived alongside the Bowen pier, Port Chalmers, at 10.30 a.m. on Saturday, and after a short stay jiroceeded to Dunedin. She left Sydney at midnight of the 23rd nit., and arrived at Wellington at 4.30 a.m. of tho 28th; loft for the south at 8.15 p.m. same day, and reached Lyttelton at 10 a.m. of tho 29th; pushed on again at 5.30 p.m. same day, and arrived at headquarters as above. She left for Melbourne, via the Bluff and Hcbart, yesterday afternoon. The Tyser line steamer Redhill, which is shortly exp-scted here, experienced very tempestuous weather on her passage from New York to Melbourne, which occupied 60 days.
