MEETINGS OF SOCIETIES.

At the close- of the ordinary monthly meet- ) ing of Caurt Pride of the Forest, Juvenile Foresters, . held in the Oddfellows' Hall, Stuart street, the third .competition for a. prize presented by P.D.C.R. Bra. G. W. Geddes, of Court Pride of Dunedin, took place, and was won by Bro. J. He-lean with a. score of 27 out of a. possible 30, the conditions being three competitions of two shots caeh; the second being- Bro. W. Hfjlean with, a score of 23. The usual meeting of the Cargill Road. Literary and Debating Society was held in Wesley "Hall, Cargill road, on Wednesday evening, Rev. J. Ward occupying the chair. The evening was devoted to the reading of the society's journal, the contents of which proved to be very interesting and instructive. The papers 1 were read-by the editors (Messrs F. W. Clayton and C. H. Lowden), assisted by Messrs M'lndoe and Currie. The meeting closed with ■ the National Anthem. j Under the auspices of the Albany Street I School Old Boys' Club, Mr J. Wilkinson do- 1 livered last Friday a. most interesting discourse I on " A Tour Through Great Britain." Begin- J ning with London, the lecturer dwelt at length ■ on the many historical places and interesting buildings to be seen in tho famous city, and then, threading his way gradually northwards, he at. last arrived at Edinburgh, spending some considerable time in relating the various charms of the Scottish capital. Towards the end of his address Mr' Wilkinson referred to England's numerous manufactures, and said he thought that, in spite of the extensive manufactures of the United States, Britain had little to fear from tho American commercial invasion of Europe. turer, and accorded him a very hearty vote of thanks; while the Chairman (Mr J. Cowic) said he hoped that at some future time the club would again have the pleasure of hearing Mr Wilkinson speak oil his travels through Europe. Next Friday the club will hold » ping-pong tournament.
