Si a, —At the close of the meeting of tlie Shakespeare Club on Thursday evening it was iitatocl that the readings from "As You Like It" then given completed the twentyfifth year of the club's existence. As the audience were moving to go away when the remark was rondo, your reporter probably did not hear it. There is much more ebb and flow in tlirv population of colonial towns than there is in corresponding: communities in the Home. Country, and it is proportionally more difficult to keep clulis alive for a long period in the colonies than it is in Britain. The Dunodin Shakespeare; Chib would not have lived so long if it had not been well managed, and if it did "not Milder useful services both to its own members and to the community at large. Its long existence is exceedingly creditable to tho club; and I feel free to say this, because, although I am a warm well-wisher of the club, I have, no'official'connection with it-.— I am, etc., • Dunedin, August 29.
