HIKURAKI FISHERIES AND ELECTRICAL POWER COMPANY. Attention is directed to the abridged prospectus ill another cohmm of the Hikuraki Fisheries and Electrical Power Company (Limited). Fishing operations have been successfully carried out at tho Bluff, round about Stewart Istand, and p.lso at Auckland, and in view of the well-known fact that vast quantities of fish of the finest species are procurable in the Marlborough Bounds and in various oilier putts of Cook Strait—waters within four or five hours' steam o( Wellington,—it is considered by experts a fishing ground which can l)o exploited with profitable results. Hikuraki Sound—otherwise known as Beatrice Bayforms part of tho seaward end of the d*-cp water of Pelornl Sound, and is situate about 50 miles from Wellington, and about 16 miles from Hftvolock. The waters in which tho projected company purposes to operate ate sheltered in all Weathers, and it is believed constitute the finest fishing ground io bo lonni on tho,New Zealand coast. It is a known fact that in all tho metropolitan centres fish is never plentiful, and is nt »l! times so dear as to prooludo its general consumption by the masses; and in the country districts it is a veritable luxury. This seems to indicate a good market, and at tho same time a handsome return on the capital embarked in catching and distributing fish. A moat important feature o! the olectrioal power "part of this project is its economic aspect. Any proceeds from the salt; of coal that otherwise 'would be consumed

would be all profit lo the country. Cheap motive energy is attractive to manufacturers, and when such can ho produced 011 tho 9horo of a niturp.l lmrbotir, or au ocean highway, it should command attention. If hydraulic energy can be mitde to perform the duty hitherto developed by coal, even at the name cost of installation, the saving effected must bo enormous.
