THE BOER LEADERS.
A PROPOSED CONFERENCE
ABANDONED,
Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright.
LONDON, August 13. (Received August 14, at 9 a.m.) Botha, De Wet, and De la Rey will witness the naval review from the steamship Nigeria, in company with Mr Chamberlain, Lord Kitchener, Lord Roberts, and the Prime Minister.
(Received August 14, at 0.20 a.m.) The Daily Telegraph states that owing to the opposition of Botha, De Wet, and De la Rey the proposed conference of Boer leaders has been abandoned; also the scheme for the foundation of an irreconcilable party. Mr Kruger and his followers hope by this means to conciliate Great Britain and to strengthen their chance of returning to South Africa.
