STATE OF NORTH-EAST VALLEY ROAD.
TO THE EDITOR. Sin,-I would feel obliged if you would allow me, through your columns, to draw' the attention of the Borough Council to tho state of the above road, as I fear that its. mombcrs must bo afflicted with some ophthalmic disease which prevents their seeing the liquid sea of mud which extends from the bridgo ovor tho "Water of Leith. to Normnnby. It covers the spaco where the road formerly was. Nothing has been done for weeks—l might Bay months—to clear away the mud which has been accumulating, anil it is now almost in an impassable condition, tho liquid slime being in some places six' inchcs deep. I won'rt suggest that the council walk in processional order from Normanby to the Gardens as an act of penance; otherwise, I would rccommend 1 tho ratepayers to dispense, with tho services of the lot of them, as being utterly unfit to look after the interests ■of the borough. Tho citizons of Dunodin are grumbling about the dirty state of their, streets, but, bless 'cm, they don't know what djrt them pay a visit to our "Happy Vallcy " and_ I promise them they won't come again in a hurry, especially'if tlioir ■business requires them to "cross the road .often. —I am, ctc., The Slough op Despoxd. •
