THE CARGILL ROAD ASSAULT CASES.
At the City Police Court on Saturday mornins. More Messrs J. Liddle and H. Ewini,', J.l'.'s, five young men—named respectively ltobert Phiiuester, James Sparrow, James G etldes, Alex. M'Donald, ar.d John Williswere charged with, on June 27, at Cnvershsun, assaulting and robbing James Douglas of the sum.of £3 in money, one watch and chain (va-lued at ilO), and a bunch of keys (valued at 2s). The accused, all of whom ere decidedly youthful in appearance, were net represented hy coiriscl, and had, in fact, only been arrest-ul that jnomiiig by Detectivcs Jlill and Cooney. Sub-inspector Dwyor applied fo: a remand for a wcclt, as other charges were to bo brought against tho accused, and the police hod had no time as yet to prepare the case. The accused were accordingly remanded till Friday next, July 4. Mr Thornton subsequently appeared in court, and asked that I'himester and -M'Donald bo admitted to bail, 'the police objected on the ground that some of the stolen properly had not vet. been recovered, and the objection was upheld and bail refused. Other two charges will be laid egainst the same accused in collection with assaults with robbery in Cargill road on the came night-. These are of assaulting Frederick Mavner and nibbing him of a watch and chain. (valuCli at £12) and of 15s in money, and of committing a like offence towards William Farquhar, in which case the sum of 10s Gd was securcd.
