SHIPPING SUBSIDIES.
Press Association—By Talegraph—Copyright. LONDON, Juno 20. (Received Jnno 20, at 9.36 p.m.) lord Brassey gave evidence before tho Sliipping Subsidies Committee. He said lie did not- favour subsidises to increase profits, but it was desirable for the public advantage. If tho Cunard Compauy woro unablo to hold their own without assistance tho Goyernment should help patriotically. If the American Subsidies Bill was adopted, compelling the Cunard Company to seek fresjj capital, Great Britain ought to assist. If no British subsidies were arranged British sailing ships would entirely disappear.
