MR .1. G. WOOLLET. TO THE EDITOIt. hm,-Tlio letter appearing in to-day's mm the most highly respected of the leaders o{ the Temperance party (Hr A. K. Atkinson) soems to me to call for reply. Mr Atkinson misunderstands the crux of "is eitviation. Exception is not taken to Mr Woolloy as a foreigner. As such he is quit© withm his rights in expressing his opinions. ihe questions to bo considered and aiiwored are:— 1. Did Mr Woollcy, in giving expression to those opinions, make uso of liuiguago, no matter how qualified, whioh ranires him on tho eide of the onemica of tho British Empiro? ?., Did ho make use of oxprossiouß which reflected on the loyalty of the pooplo of the Australasian colonies? 3. If ho did, can tho Temperance, party bn associated with Mr Woolley in tho coming campaign without to n great extent being unrated, in the public mind, with his views? I, Sir, for one, hold that they cannot. iheso aro tho questions which stand in liocd of answers. We don't want to be toW that tho quotation* are garbled—that is evident; tlioy aro the work of an enemy, and an unscrupulous enemy to boot. Wo want a plain, straightforward answer, Yes or No; no sophistries, no special pleading. If Mr Woollcy did not mnke tho statements attributed to him, then, Sir, ho is a much wronged man, and I know tho people of this _ colony anffioiontly well to know that tlioy will not allow an innocent man to bo trampled on, but that they will be only too caser to make up to him for any wrongs he may have suffered from misrepresentation by according him a right royal rceoption.—l am, etc.,
