(Per United Press Association.) j NAPIER, May 12, At the meeting of the National Council of Women of Now Zealand to-day tho following resolutions were carried—" That the provisions affecting district High Schools should be. established for the benefit of children "throughout the colonic*." "This council note with delight the cxprossstl intention of the Government to proceed immediately with the erection of a homo for deficient children." "Seeing tbat in every other respect the law holds girls under the age of 21 to be minors, and unable to enter into tho marriage contract without the consent of their parents, this council considers that the age of consent should be raised t>> 21 years." "That the National Council feels that it is urgently necessary that the Publio Health, Hospital, and Charitable Aid Acts bo amended so as to make provision for the establishment of special wards for tho admission of patients suffering from venereal diseases and voluntarily presenting themselves for treatment," "That this council gratefully recognises the steps that the Government havo already taken in establishin? wards for the accommodation of patients suffering from delirium tremens, and urges that similar provision should be made for cases of lunacy and extended to all largo centres of population.*' It was further rosolved—" That tho executive bn instructed to appoint a deputation to wait upon the Acting-Premier and members of both Houses and enter a strong protest against the continued delay of the repeal of the O D act?." "That whereas tho liquor trafl'c is declared on undisputed authority to be tho cause of much misery, much vice, and much crime, therefore this National Council of Women pledges itself on humanitarian grounds to do all in its power to difcountcnanco tho manufacture, importation, and sale of alcoholic liquors. That this council approach the Minister of Education with a view to having scientific instruction in the nature of alcohol and its effects on the human system given to tho children in our State schools."
