HARBOUR BOARD REPORTS.

The following aro the main features of tho engineer's report, to bo presented at to-day's meeting of the Harbour Board: —

Tho installation of the electric light contract on dredge 222 having been completed, a comiiieticemcht was made on the Ist of the month to work tn'o shifts of eight hours each per day, under Mr R, Douglas as dredgemaater and- chief engineer; Captain Munro acting as sailing master. The electric light ;•> working well, atftl. good progress is being made with the dredging. The dredging to give access to the Lower Oetiv street berth is completed, and 222 is jiow ililring n cut down the Victoria wharf to have this <lone before the pile-driving of the wharf extension and widening is commenced. The Vulcan continues to do good work, pumping the whole of .222's dredgings on to the reclamation by Si, Andrew street. A large area at the.'upppr end is either completed or Hearing formation height;, and the Plaining wall by Morgan's b"ths is being raised so as to enable the lower area to be made up. The Priestman grab :s still at wujk at the lower Jetly street whfc-rt- clearing out the bench not reached by 22-2, a*\<l as soon as. this is completed this fine berth will be available. During the montb of August about- 21,300 cubic yards wete dredged and pumped into the reclamation, at ». combined eqst of about 9Jd per cubic yard; the 1 riostman grab nlso lifting and discharging from punts about 1400 cubic yards. A shipment of piles and timber lias been received for tluHvider.ing and extension of the wctoria, wharf, aiid a commencement is about td be lfcade with tho pile-driving. New buckets and links for 222.—The material lias been received from Home, and a statt is being made to rivet them together. The p.s. The ;oad format-on and metalling at the new slied, Jetty street v.-liarf, is in hand, and sundiy repairs to wharves aro being effected. A new boat lias also beim obtained for dredge 222, as the old one was beyond repair, avd wis becoming unsafe for use.
