He immediately got out of the cart, anil clambered down the bank, but his inability to swim prevented him from rendering anv assistance. Ho threw a piece of wood lo (ho struggling woman, but it failed to reach her. He tlißii hurried otf to the powder hulk. wliero ho secured a boat and pulled round with all Ijaslo In t))i> (pot, but when ho arrived there the woman had disappeared. On coming back to tho shore ho noticed a coat, ha*, and a pair of booW, and in one of
the pockets of the eo.it there was a letter. The polico were communicated with,> and it was found that the young woman's name was Amy Susan Heather, single-, aged 21 years, who had lived with her parent* in Melville street. The letter that was fount! m her coat was nddrcraed I" her mother, and judging by (he contents the care seems to bo one of Fuicido. The yoiiiiff woman bade, her parents i;ood-byc, and prayed her mother'* forgiveness for the rash act. No cause can be aligned for the deed except that Misa Heather lias lately been in .a very low state of health, and has been tinder the doctor's care. At llio inquest a verdict was returned of ''Suicide by drowning whijp ill a stale of temporary insanity."
