MRS FOGO'S CASE.

His Worship the Mayor has received the following letter from the Inspector of Prisons in answer to the petition of Dunedin residents for a reprieve of Mrs Sarah Fago, who was convicted of the murder of her husband:— Wellington, March" 13, 1901. Sir,—l have tho honour, by direction of the Hon. the Minister of Justice, to acknowledge his receipt of a petition, without date, signal by yourself and many residents in and about Dunedin, addressed to his Excellency the Governor, praying that the jury's recommendation to mercy in the case of the prisoner Sarah Fogo may be given effect to, which has been duly submitted to his Excellency, and in reply to inform you that tho Minister can see no sufficient grounds to justify him in lecommending his Excellency to comply with the request further than has already been done.
