SCHOOL PICNIC.

The Moeraki School picnic, which had to be postponed on Saturday, was held at Hillgrova oh. Tuesday. About 10.30 a.m. troops of children began to assemblo, and very soon their teachers had them heartily engaged in rounders, twos and threos, and other games. The committeemen in the meanwhile. wero busily engaged in boiling the " billy," while their wives cheerily prepared the eatables. At 12.30 a happy array ot 200 or more persons sat down, and did ample justice to tho plentiful viands. Then all the children, and not a 'few grown-up folk, were regaled with lollies, after which boys' and girls' races were got off just before a heavy thundershower. During tho rain all took advautage of the railway gooda shed, which happened to bo almost empty, and soon engaged in dancing, enlivened by a number of juvenile Maori hakas, which delighted everyone, especially those who had never seen such an exhibition. At 4.30 tea was again served, followed by more races for books. About 6.30 p.m. Mr Bell, iu a few words, thanked those present who had contributed to the day's enjoyment, and called for a hearty vote of thanks for the ladies and the members oj committee, who had worked so energetically to make the picnic such a great success. Three checrs were vociferously given, and then someone proposed threo for Mr Bell, which were also most heartily given. "Auld lang syne" was next started, but booh the music merged into a waltz, which indicated that the young people were loth to depart.
