THE COAL MINES COMMISSION.
(Pbs United Pukss Association.) WESTPORT, January 31. The Coal Mines Commission sat for three days in Westport, and have just finished a six-days' sitting at Mokihinui, & great quantity of evidence was taken. The commissioners visit the Granity mine on Friday, adjourning for Saturday, and will proceed with the Granity and Denniston mines inquiries next week. At Mokihinui views in favour of a State coal mine being established were urged upon the comniissiqners by representatives of the mining community. No intimation was given by the commissioners, however, of how they regarded the proposal. The proceedings we marked bv great ability and decorum Oil the part of those who appeared for the miners and others interested.
