A SOCIAL GATHERING.
A very pleasant gathering was held at the Choral Hall on Tuesday evening by the entire staff of Messrs A. and T. Ingtis's employees, together with Mr Emery (the manager), the executors, and their friends. The occasion of the meeting wa3 a, social kindly given by Mr Emery, who took this opportunity on his return from a trip to the old land of meeting in a body the entire staff. A moat enjoyable oveuing was spent, characterised by geniality and heartiness, and a thorough absence of " stiffness/' which unfortunately mars so many meetings of this kind, especially whero so large a number of hands are employed. The proceedings wero opened by Mr Emery reading extracts from notes made on his trip. It proved a- most enjoyable narrative, and the listeners all regretted its necessary briefness. Those present all felt a strong desire that they might bo given another opportunity to hear more from the same, source, especially of his trip through Ireland. This was followed ,by songs by Miss Inglis and Mr Emery, a recitation by Mr Kirkcaldie, duets by Miss and Mr Emery, and a most amusing farce by Miss B. Inglis and Mr Eaßtber. The dancers then took the floor, and the evident enjoyment of those engaged was continued to an early hour. A side room was prettily decorated and furnished, where tho3e desiring could enjoy a hand at whist. Mr Emery was heartily cheered at the close, and that rollicking chorus, " He's a jolly good fellow," was sung with greaj gusto. The refreshments were of a. sumptuous character, and were supplied by Mr S. Lean. The music was provided by Messrs latea in their usual efficient manner.
