AMUSEMENTS.

PRINCESS THEATRE. A very large house greeted tho second ft?* formance of the melodrama "'When London Sleeps" by the Stanford Dramatic Cdmpany at the Princess Theatre last evening. With its many thrilling situations and intensely dramatic scenes, the pieco is one which will appeal to a wide range of theatregoers, and proof of this is afforded in the heartiness of the Teceptioh accorded last evening's and the first night's performances. The scenic effects and stage accessories generally are on a very lavish. scale, and quite in keeping with the reputation Mr Stanford has achieved for his company in this respect during tho present Season. The scene depicting the heroine's escape from the, burning building by walking along the telephone wire, and that wherein she undergoes a thrilling escape from an awful death before the Indian image are certainly most effective examples of stage realism, and create the liveliest interest. The portrayal of tho various characters was admirablo in every respect.. Mr Standford's representation of the villain, Miss Gresham's Characterisation of the heroine, and tho presentation of tW other parts left no room for adverse criticism. To-night tho piece will he agaiii staged. . ALHAMBRA THEATRE. . The popularity of Dix's Gaiety Company, now appearing at the Alhambra, Theatre, continues unabated.
