NORTH ISLANDS.

Asj already stated, he in to leave in a few days for the islands in the far south, visiting the Snares, Campbell. Auckland, Bounty, and Antipodes Islands."" Ho will make tho voyage in one of the ordinary cruises of the Hinemoa, one of the objects of his visit being tho obtaining of specimens of the birds of thcto islands that have, been asked for by the British Museum. Captain Button, of the Canterbury Museum, and Dr Collins, of Wellington, will accompany his Excellency on this trip, from which ho may be expected back at the Bluff between tho 16th and 21st January. After a short stay, in Invercargill lie will leave on January 24- on a driving tour through Southland and Otago, using for the purpose his own horses and wagonette. Tn these journeying* he will be accompanied by Captain Alexander. A slart will be made from Orepuki, hip .Excellency driving by way of the Wniau to Lakes Mannpouri and Te Anau, stopping on the road at Mr R. M'Kcnzie's Blackmount. station. At Manapoiu-i and Tc Auau some short expeditions will be made. From Te Anau the Governor will drive to Mossburn, going thenco by train to Goro, whoro lie will probably stay a couple of days transacting public business. On February 2 lie will leave Goro for Roxburgh, via Heriot, thence proceeding to Alexandra, where ho will stay two -nights. lie will then drive to Cromwell and Pembroko, devoting a couple, of dnyp to Lake Wana-ka and its surroundings; returning down the valley of the Molynnux for some distance, ho will continue his driving tour to Oamarama, breaking the journey at- Tarras and • Morven Hills stations. Thenco he will drive to Kurow, where lie. will entrain for Christclnirch, stopping a day at Oamaru on the way. This will probably bring him to Christclmrcli on 13lh February, and lio will stay there for the races, leaving again on the 18th for Sir George Clifford's homestead at Stonyhurst. From Stonyhiirst iin will go to Cheviot nnrl Kaikoura. stopping two nights at llio latter pace, and thence proceeding to Mr Walter Clifford's Flaxbourno station. He will then visit Blenheim ©id Nelson, and continue the trip to Westport, and probably south through Westlnnd as far as Okarito. Naturally, this being a driving tour, the dates given are only approximate, and may be affeetcxl somewhat by the condition of the roadp. such as wash-outs, swollen rivers, etc. 0-1 the completion or this trip Lord Itanfurly will return to the North Island, and will then probably start on another journey, driving through from Hnwern, via Opunakc and Awakino, to Te Kuiti, and thence by rail on to Auckland.
