Straits Settlements, South Africa, Mauritius, Mediterranean ports, Continent of Europe, United Kingdom, etc., per spilth express, to connect with the Waikare at the Bluff at 8 a.m. Due in London February 3. Correspondence for the United Kingdom to be specially addressed via- Melbourne. SAN FRANCISCO MAIL SERVICE. For Northern Ports of New Zealand, Samoa, Sandwich Islands. Japan, Philippine Islands, United States of America, Canada, South America, West Indies, United Kingdom, and Continent of Europe, at 10 a.m. Book packets and newspapers at 9 a.m. The above mail will close at the branch Post Offices, North Dunedin and South Dunedin, for money orders and registered letters at a p.m. on the 22nd, letters at 9.30 a.m., aji<! newspapers at 5 a.m. on the 24th. At the Port Chalmers office at 8.45 a.m. on the 24th; money orders at 4 p.m.; registered letters at 5 p.m. on the 22nd. The above mail will be due in London on the 26th January. MAIL ARRANGEMENTS FOB CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR HOLIDAYS. ■ Tuesday, 2oth December, and Tuesday, Ist January, being postal holidays, all mails usually despatched on those clays will close on Monday, 21th, and Monday, 31st, at 8 p.m. A delivery will also be given over the counter ea"h Monday evening, from 7 till 8 o'clock. Sunday hours will be observed for the private box lobby. On Wednesday, 26th (Boxing Day), the office will be open nt all brandies for one hour— viz., from 9 till 10 a.m. 'The usual despatch of mails will be made up to 10 a.m., and one complete delivery will be made by tho letter carriers at 8 a.m. Private box lobby open as usual. NOTICE.-CHRISTMAS CARDS, Etc. The public are reminded that cards, etc., enclosed in envelopes not entirely open at one end, are liable to be charged deficient postage at letter rates upon delivery. To ensure prompt delivery, letters, etc., for dredging companies should have the name of the secretary in the addr.-ss. REDUCTION OF POSTAGE. From the Ist January, 1901. tho postage on letters and letter-cards for delivery within the colony or for United Kingdom. Tho express delivery will cover letters and parcels not exceeding 31b in weight, for which an extra fee of Gd has been paid, and delivery will be made on receipt at this and the following offices:—Ashburton, Auckland, Blenheim, Bluff, Cliristchurcii, Feilding, Gisborne, Gore, Greymouth, Hawera, Hokitika, Invercargill, Lyttelton, Masterton, Napier, Nelson, New Plymouth, Oamaru, Onehunga, Palmerston North, Port Chalmers, Thames, Timaru, Wanganui, Wellington, Westport. The special messenger service means -placing a messenger at the disposal of any telephone exchange subscriber on request being made, and ft fee of 6d for the first mile and 3d each additional mile up to two miles, or time payment being made, such messengers may be utilised for running an errand, ordering a cab, delivering letters, small parcels, or any similar E.
