PURAKANUI SCHOOL.

The annual distribution of pris-.es to the pupils of the Purakanui School took place on Wednesday at 1.30 p.m. Notwithstanding the heavy rain, there was n good attendance of parents and friends of the school. Mr Tennent addressed the children, and complimented, them upon the excellent school concert they had so successfully carried out on the 7th. The items rendered were a credit to all qor.cerned. He pointed out to the children that this would be their last distribution of prizes during the present century, as the century was drawing vory rapidly to a iijosc. After some very good advice to the children the prizes were distributed. Mr Mawson, M.A.. an old Pnrakamii School boy himself, then addressed the scholars and the teachers. Ho complimented Mr Ross and Miss Johnstone on the good work they had done in the school, and the children on the nno display of books that was awaiting them. Mr Ross, ou behalf of himself, ami Miss Johnstone. thanked the previous speakers for their kind remarks, and also the parents and friends for their attendance at the brenk-up. During tlif afternoon the children rendered several items in a very pionsincr manner, and after cheers— at the 'call of Mr Mawson—for the prizewinners teachers, and chairman, the ceremony came to an end, and the lndios withdrew into tho infant room to examine the sowing. The ladies were loud in their praise about the excellence of the different work done by the girls. The following is the prize list: —
