A deputation from the Anderson's Bay Electrical Tramway Company (Limited), consisting of Messrs Daniels and Begg, waited on the council and asked permission, to run a tramway from JJunedin to Anderson's Bay through a portion of the borough. They stated .that they had already obtained permission, from the Peninsula Road Board, and the Boroughs of St. Hilda and South Dunedin, to run through certain streets over which they had control.—The matter was referred to a number of committees to report to next meeting. . .

The Finance.Committee, reported that £354----13s 8d had been lodged in the bank since last meeting-, and recommended that £112 5s 4d for general accounts and £188 3s Id for water supply be passed for payment.—Adopted. The Works Committee recommended the council to lay concrete kerbing in Grosvenor street, on the south side, from the Kensington School to Vernal street, and in Park street, from the Anderson's Bay road to Vernal street; the old kerbing to be used for repairs where required. The committee instructed the inspector to put a few loads of metal on Surrey road, and. to repair the footnath on Mount Pleasant. They had instructed the clerk to direct the attention of the South Dunedin Council to the want of metal between the tram rails on the Cargill road. They asked Messrs C. and W. Shiel whether they would contract to supply metal for twelve months at the prices'mentioned in their letter. The committee postponed consideration of the matter of metalling streets and erecting a fire brigade shed at Kensington.—The report, was adopted. The Inspector of Works reported that to lay 9-inch pipes through Mr Andrews's section, a distance of. 188 ft, would cost about £13, and to lay 4-inch pipes from Mr Palmer's down the road 316 ft would cost about £15. The wall from Beach street to the baths was being damaged by the heavy seas. The foundation for about 40ft was being scoured out. It was necessary that something should be done at once to prevent further damage.—• Tiie first clause was referred to the inspector to see Mr Andrews and report to the Drainage Committee. The remainder of the report was adopted.

The_Town Clerk of St. Kilda wrote'stating that his councii could not see their way to interfere with any drains in the Forbury road. It had been decided that three members of hi 3 council would meet three of the Cavershara Council on Monday night, to consider the question of the Forbury road box-drain.—The" Mayor, Crs Ruston and Hancock were appointed to meet the St. Kilda councillors.

The District E7igineer of Railways wrote asking if the council would agree to certain alterations to Laing street, which would be necessary in order to make a siding to the Caversham railway station.—Referred to the departmental committees to report. Messrs C. and W. Shiel wrote offering to deliver metal at the prices quoted by them for 12 months.—lt was1 stated that the prices were 3s 6d per cubic yard for metal delivered on low ground and 4s 6d for metal delivered on high ground.—The offer was accepted.

Cr Ruston suggested that the council should ask the member for the district to get a claueei inserted in the Drainage Bill now before Parliament making provision foi. compensation being paid to boroughs for sewers and. drains already in existence.—Th6 matter -was referred to the Water and Works Committees to take whatever action they thought necessary.

The matter of effecting repairs to-several streets was referred to the Works Committee to report. .

MAORI HELL. ■ . The monthly meeting of the Maori Hill Borough Council, held last evening, was attended by the Mayor (Mr Robertson), Crs Pilkington, Watt,. Passmore, Butler, Mul-. holls.nd, Harbour, Clarke, Crowther, Frame, and Smith. . . ■ Mr R. Armit wrote drawing attention to . Smytton street footbath, being overgrown with a hedgs, and asked, that it might be attended to.—Referred to the Works Committee to act. ' . The Town Clerk, Dunedin, notified' that fha broom, etc., growing on an old track across the Town Belt from Driver's road to, the junction of Cosy Dell with th 6 Queen's drive would be cleared away.—Received.

Mr. W. Carncross, M.H.R., wrote, with reference to the council obtaining a grant of £150 for forming a portion of the Main road, Leith Valley, that it was unusual to vote money for main roads unless under special conditions. Every portion of his Electorate had equal claims to votes of this natuve. Ho asked that special details of claims miight be sent to him, when he would see what he could do. With regard to spending a portion of the grant in payment for land, that, was an absolute impossibility, as there was no law to permit such a diversion of funds. With regard to Henderson's road, it seemed as if'tha council's claim had not yet been sent in through the chief surveyor in Dunedin.—Received; the particulars asked for having bean already forwarded.

Mr- W. Henderson wrote asking for an extension of time for making a road to Neil's bridge to October 31.—Granted.

The Rev. R. R. M. Sutherland wrote re the protest against the running of Sunday trams. He was authorised to try and arrange for* a meeting to consider the matter at Maori Hill, with-the object of getting the residents to join in the protest.—The conclusion come to was that the council had no rjower to deal with the matter.

The Finance Committee's renort, setting forth that the bank overdraft stood at £565, and recommending that accounts' amounting to £104- be passed for payment, was adopted. The term of office of Crs Crowther (South Ward), Smith (East Ward), Passmore (West Ward), and Watt (North Ward) expires on September 16.
