A large number of foreigners who were recently arrested at Johannesburg on suspicion of plotting against the British have been released. The sum of £50,000, which was found in their possession, ■ has been returned to them, although it is believed
that the Boers supplied the money to them to assist in the conspiracy for the overthrow of British rule.

CAPTAIN HUTSON RECOVERING Captain A. Hutson, who was slightly wounded, is doing well at Pretoria.
DEATH OF A VICTORIAN. Private M'Cartney, a. Victorian, has died from his wounds.
CANADIANS IN TROUBLE,
CAPETOWN, August 8. (Received August 9, at 7 p.m.) Two of the Canadian mounted men were sentenced to 10 years' imprisonment for commandeering Boer arms with forged orders, and selling them to other Boers.
ILLNESS OF EX-PRESIDENT STEYN. Ex-President Steyn is seriously ill.
TWO SCOUTS CAPTURED,
. The Boers captured two of General Carrington's scouts disguised as Transvaal burghers.
BOER AGENTS IN A PANIC. LORENZO MARQUEZ, August 8. (Received August 9, at 7 p.m.). The Boer agents at Delagoa Bay are panicstricken at the dismissal of the customs officials.
