CLYDE COLLIERIES COMPANY (LIMITED).

TO THE EDITOE. Slit, —It is with pleasure we notice in the Times of yesterday that, your Clyde correspondent has such a high opinion of the above company. Apparently his sole cause for writing was to object to the title "Collieries* as applied to the company, but we wish your correspondent to understand that the company being so named allows for ■ embracing further properties, and we would ask why we should not adopt a title that would enable us to extend out- operations, if we ever thought it expedient so to do.

The following, from Mr F. W. Gray, with reference to pits in the district, speaks for itself:—"Although there is another pit alongside, it is only a coal mine in name, and can never be worked to compete with the Clyde, as it can only bo worked to advantage with the co-operation of the latter party, the dip of the coal and the rapid rise of the hill making it extremely difficult property to work from any other direction, even should the coal be proved to exist in payable quantities in it. Ido not anticipate any pit being worked or opened which will be likely to affect the profits from the Clyde pit by 1 per cent." Your . correspondent may be correct in stating that we shall not eventually control the coal supply of the district, but just for the present we^cannot allow that any semblance to opposition can be put forward to dispute our right to the title of " Clyde Collieries (Limited). —We are, etc., Quick and Smith, Davies, Davies, and Co., Brokers.
