Both -were badly, damaged, and the Brighton, after transferring her passengers, was beached to prevent her from sinking. .- . . NEW SOUTH WALES MINES, ' The report of the, Mines department shows that the value of the minerals won in the colony last year amounted to £6,157,00*!), an increase of £1,290,000 compared with the -previous year. The gold output was 150,7000z in excess, and is the largest since 1665. Silver lead ore is valued at £2,070,000, the largest since 1894. Copper, tin, and diamonds all show a good increase. A NEW BISHOP. BRISBANE, August 8. (Received August 8, at 9.15 a.m.) Archdeacon White, of ToWnsyille, has been appointed bishop of the newly-created diocese of Carpentaria, in Northern Queensland. A SERIOUS FIRE. . ADELAIDE, August 8. (Received August 8, at 8.55 aim.) ' M'Farlune's store 'at Port Lincoln has been burned. It is insured in the Standard of New Zealand for £3500.
