DRAWING ROOM ENTERTAINMENT.
A drawing room entertainment under the auspices of the Dunedin Catholic Men's Social Club was held in St. Joseph's Hall, Eattray street, last evening, when there was a very large audience, the building being packed. The stage was decorated in a manner to represent a well-appointed drawing room. The programme was carefully prepared, and so well appreciated that encores were the rule of the evening, every item being redenianded. Miss K. Moloney opened with a pianoforte solo, which was played in her customary brilliant style; songs' were rendered with success by Mrs R. Hudson, jun., Mis* B. Blaney, Messrs T. Hussey and A. Murphy; while a duet was contributed by Messrs E. Eagar and B. Stevens. Recitations were delivered by "Miss G. Bush and Mr L. Morris, both of whom secured the heartiest applause. Mr R. Phillips, who is a firstrrate cornetist, contributed- a .cornet solo, and Mr J. A. M'llroy, who possesses no little skill as a mandoline' player, gave a selection on that instrument. . Amongst the more enjoyable features of the evening were two instrumental 'trios played by Mrs James Grifien, J. A. M'llroy, and T. Deehan, while the accompaniments were played by Misses Moloney and Bush in a way that left nothing to be desired.
— French painters should have room enough at the 1900 Salon, as the architect of the building has provided them with nearly four miles of hanging space. . . .
