The Zealandia Syndicate was organised for the purpose Of thoroughly testing by bores, shafts etc., areas of auriferous land situate on the West Coast of New Zealand and elsewhere. In onto' to carry this out properly, up-to-date plant was obtained and three experts engaged, each a specialist in.his own department. Mr John Don, long and favourably known as a I careful and reliable mining expert, was entrusted with the work of supervising shaft-sink- j mo- and gaining knowledge of the wash and its gold contents. Mr N. K. Sligo, who takes up all the Syndicate's options, first goes carefully over each one himself and then in company with his colleagues, to determine if it will justify further expense in the way of systematic prospecting. ,','*, ™ When an option has been taken over, Mr Alex. Sligo, a boring expert, first takes it in hand, and bores it in several places for depth . of wash, nature of bottom, etc. If it is possible to do so, shafts are put down, and a good general average of the value of the wash is sociired.' If this is not practicable then a number of open cuts are made to water ; level and value of upper wash ascertained, and the boring rods are then used to'get-value of same to main bottom. The Syndicate have now a large staff of practical working'miners, engaged, all of whom are well acquainted with the local features of the country being prospected, and their knowledge is often of great assistance to the exports when determining the value of a claim for dredgiiig. Numbers of options'have been refused by the Syndicate's experts, on account of poorness ol returns in some cases, and in others on account of the great coat that would have to be incurred in forming roads for transport of machinery, coals, etc., and in clearing, the'areas of growing timber^ Persons having plaims are invited to write to the Secretary for terms for prospecting samo and putting on the market. Only areas that will stand the mo3t rigid inspection will be takea over by this Syndicate for this purpose. Arrangements are now being made whereby it is expected that the Companies lately floated by this Syndicate will be able to get dredges on their claims within nine months from date of signing contract. This time in ay possibly be shortened, but it is confidently anticipated that it will not be. exceeded. At present several highly auriferous blocks held under option are being thoroughly prospected, and will at some future date bo placed on the market if found suitable, for dredging! Investors are, therefore, invited to write to the Syndicate's Brokers for-further information re these claims. , "Reports on mining properties on the West Coast can now be furnished by any of the Company's experts.
