LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL.
FRIDAY, JULY 27.
The Council met at 2.30 p.m. OLD SOLDIERS' CLAIMS.
. It was resolved that the report of the Public Petitions Committee upon the petition of Frederick Platt Blackmore, formerly of the 49th Regiment, be agreed to. A similar motion was come to in regard to the committee's report upon the petition of Richard Radeliffe Taylor, on behalf of relatives of the late Sergeant Dearlove, of the colonial forces. The Hon. "W. C. WALKER, speaking to both motions, said the Government, as a matter of policy, could not reopen the old soldiers' claims. COMPENSATION FOR ACCIDENTS. Tho motion to go into committee on the Workers' Compensation for Accidents Bill ■was carried after debate, and progress immediately reported. , WESTPORT HARBOUR BOARD. The Westport Harbour Board Loan Bill was passed through committee without amendments, read a third time, and passed. EDUCATION BOARD ELECTIONS.
The Education Boards Election Bill was considered in committee. No amendments were made, but the clause dealing with the appointment of scrutineers was postponed. The Council rose at .4.10 p.m. <
