INVALIDED SOLDIERS.

RECEPTION AT HOBART.

HOBART, July 27, (Received July 27, at 9.20 a.m.)

The troopship Karamea arrived here last night from Capetown. She has on board 103 invalided soldiers belonging to the various Australian colonies, including 13 New Zealanders. The scene on their arrival was one of the wildest enthusiasm and cheering. The demonstrations of the dense crowds who were round the wharves and thronged the main streets are beyond description. The city gave itself up to a joyful outburst' of welcome. T.he men from New Zealand are recovering from -their attack of enteric, and during the voyage they made wonderful progress towards convalescence.

(Received July 27, at 9.25 a.m.)

Speaking to one of the returned troopers he said that he had no desire to stop in South Africa, which was a very barren place, and where you could go for 100 miles ■without getting even a bit of firewood. Enteric was the.dreaded complaint, and it was common to see between 30 or 40 poor fellows carried out for burial. The majority were glad to be getting home again.

There are 53 belonging to New South Wales, 31 to Victoria, four to South Australia, two to Tasmania, and 13 to New Zealand. The latter left here by the Karamea for New Zealand last night, and should arrive at Wellington about Monday. Their names are Sergeants Orbell and Finlay, Corporal Overton, Lance-corporal Strange, Privates Parsens, sen. and jun., A. Newdick, H. Hurford, Hilliar, Davis, Wilson, Jackson, Meredith.

(Received July 27, at 10 a.m.) The mayor extended a heai'ty welcome to the returning troopers.
