CAVERSHAM BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The -meeting of..the Caversham Borough Council, held last evening, was attended by the Mayor (Mr Sid'ey), Ors Glendining, R. Wilson, M'Oronigal, Smith, Hancock, Bridgeman, Kustoii, Searle, J. Wilson, Heppclthwaite,' and Rutherford.

. The ' Works Committee reported that the Mayor had been asked to interview the chief surveyor concerning metal for the main road. The committee recommended that 15 chains of gorse be cleared off the road leading from Look-out Point to Corstorphine at a cost of £8. With reference to a letter from Mr J. Downie, the proprietor of the Kensington Hotel had been asked to provide a new trapdoor to the cellar, the door to be fixed at a level with the footpath. With regard to a letter from Mr J. M'Kay, the inspector had been instructed to attend to the water channels in Phillip street, anu the clnrk to ask the City Council to repair the footpath leading from St. Kilda road to Phillip street. The committee recommended that 30 yards of fine rotten rock be spread from Burns street to Edwin street. The clerk had been instructed to ask the manager of the Railway Workshops for two truck loads of ashes. Consideration of the matter of the fence along the edge of a drain, Main road, and Mr M'lntosh's letter had been postponed.—Adopted.

The Finance Committee reported that £211 had been lodged' in. the bank, and recommended that accounts amounting to £187 be paid. They recommended that the council's safe ■be sold for £10, the sum offered.— Adopted. .

Mrs E. Tonkinson wrote chawing attention to the state of the footpatlj between Mr Didham'a residence and, her gate.—Referred to the inspector, with power to act.

Messrs C. and W. Shiel wrote that owing to the increased rates for carting, they would have to increase the price of metal. The prices in future would be 4s 6d per yard for the hills, and 3s 6d per yard for the flat portion of the borough .—Referred to the Works Committee.
