THE BENTLEY SEASON.
The'staging by Mr Bentley of a dramatisation of Hall Caine's novel, •' The Christian," indicates a new trend in the direction of modern drama. The work about to be produced is powerful, and has made a great impression in the literary world. It appeals to all classes of the community, affording as it does strong dramatic situations, at the same time offering a. forceful argument to thinking readers and auditors. Hall Came vividly pictures the struggle that goes on in every man's heart between the animal and the. spiritual: the intellectual imd the.sensual. John Storm is a noble character, but essentially human; and although he tries to follow as closely as possible in the footSteps of the Master, he is so harassed by his environments and by influences both from without and within, that lie finally succumbs. During the season Mr Bentley will revive " Hamlet." " Othello" will also be produced, with Mr Douglas Ancelon in the title role.
