. «. , DUNEDIN JOCKEY CLUB. The first meeting of the new committee of the Dunedin Jockey Club was held last night, when, the following- members were ■ present:—Mr S. Solomon (in the chair), and Messrs W. B. Vigors, W. Coughlan, James Hazlett, A. E. S. Carr, S. S. Myers, W. H. Taggart, J. S. Thomson, James Mills, and J. Grindley. Mr P. Miller -wrote forwarding his resignation as judge and also as a member of' the committee.—lt was resolved—" That the resignation of Mr Miller of his jgosition as eommitteeman and judge be received with regret, and that the secretary write to Mr Miller expressing the committee's high appreciation of his services to the club." Votes of thanks were passed to Mr E. H. Hart for his services as clerk of the course during the past year, and to Mr Grindley for his services as starter. The vice-president and Mr Thomson were appointed a sub-committee to select a small present for presentation to Mr Grindley. The following appointments were made: — Mr ,H. L. James, acting secretary, at a salary of £175 per annum; Mr Sydney Jamas, as stipendiary steward, at a salary of £50 per annum; Mr John Grindley was appointed judge; Mr E. H. Hart, clerk of the course; Mr A. E. S. Carr, treasurer; Drs J. O. Closs and W. Allan, hon. surgeons; Mr W. D. Snowball, veterinary surgeon; and the whole committee were appointed stewards. It was decided to declare vacant the office of handicapper, and it tvas resolved—"That applications for the office of handicapper to the Dunedin Jockey Club, at a salary of £150 per annum, be invited by advertisement in the Otago Daily Times, Evening Star, and Referee: applications to be sent in' by August 28." The Programme Committee was appointed, to consist of: Messrs S. S. Myers J S Thomson, A. E. S. Carr, and J. Grindley. An application was received from Mrs T. Buddicombe for a grant from the jockeys' fund, on behalf of her husband, who met with a aerious accident at the May meet-ing.—-It was decided to grant 30s a week for three months, the amount to be paid weekly. TAHUNA PARK TROTTING CLUR. The report of the committee of the Tahuna i'ai'k lrooting Club for the year ended July 20 states that the advertised stakes offered for the past season amounted to £1950, as against £1781 (including- trophies value £186) for the season 1898-99. This shows an' increase of £169. or in actual added money an increase of £355. The totalisator investments amounted to £15,650, being an increase of : £3122 10s on the corresponding meetings of previous year.' Much of the success of the year's operations was no doubt due to the increased stakes and the introduction of class trotting with shorter limits than formerly, ' a better class of horses competing in the chief races, and the public thus taking a greater , interest in the sport. A conference of Caledonian Societies' delegates has decided to hold the next athletio championship meeting at Napier. Mr R. D. D. M'Lean was re-Glected president.

A Christchurch telegram states that at the adjourned meeting of the Canterbury Trotting Club it was reported that- as a result of the correspondence between the club and the Colonial Secretary, a permit had been granted for the club to hold a meeting on August 15 and 17. Information was received that Mr Buckland has shipped a number of trotters from Sydney, which have been nominated for the Canterbury Trotting Club's winter meeting A Londen cable states that for the Liverpool Cup Maluma is backed at 3to 1. Tod Sloan, the American jockey, will be her rider.
