A CASE FOR CHARITY.

TO THE EDITOR.

Sir, —I solicit the u?e of your valuable paper to make 'known the following facts, and to ask for the never-failing assistance of the Dunedin public to cases of need.

A young woman, now about 24 years of age, who was formerly an inmate of St. Mary's Orphan Home, has had to leave the situation to which she was sent from thence—and which she has held for the past nine years with a faithful devotion which has earned the esteem of all—on account of a serious spinal affection, and she is now in the Dunedin Hospital. The doctors have pronounced her ease incurable, and are about to discharge her from the hospital. Having no home, she must he received again at St. Mary's, but as, through paralysis of the lower limbs, she is now unable either to walk or stand, I appeal for funds to enable the managers to purchase for the use of the poor girl a bath chair, crutches, and certain other necessaries. She will also, of course, be dependent upon the institution.

Donations and subscriptions on behalf of this case may be sent, Sir, 'o you, if you will kindly receive them; or to Mrs Nevill, at Bishopsgrove, and should be marked for "'E.B."—I am, etc.,

S. T., Dunedin
