In the ninth round of the Chess Champion? ship tourney Edwards defeated Earle, Kunimer drew with Still, and Cleland b.c-at Brown.. The game between Barnes and Maekay, after five hours and a-half's play, was adjourned until Monday, the position then being even. ;. .
The tenth round began on Saturday night. Mason defeated Brown, and Kumnier beat Edwards. Cleland should ultimately win against James, having a Knight to the gcod. However, should there be a draw, these two players will be a tie for third place,. each v,vith. one game to play. ..
■ With one round to play Barnes is ' half a win ahead of llason for the Championship, to maintain which advantage he will require to win the adjourned1 game against Maekay. The players were driven into the country to-day. -
