When opening" up the Island Block in 18S9, v/ork was commenced oh the'.inri'er side of your area, and a rich run of wash vraß found about eight or ten chains from the river, •which was followed up, say, one chain in width, for about 25 chains, and some 43000z of gold .was taken from it. The run of gold was not-followed towards the river. ■ About six chains to the south of the point where the run of gold above referred to was found, the Island Block Company stripped a large-paddock which they did not. bottom, but saw indications of a, large channel running, to the south.-\vest.; An attempt-was made in, 1890 .to test the continuation of the main channel.by sinking opposite the shop,.but the drainage was so heavy that the attempt had to be abandoned, although good.payable gold ■was foyuid without reaching the bottom. ' , . i . . On the river banks and right through the Flat up to the present workings of the Island , •Block Claim we- have always found.gold throughout the whole of the overburden. I have no doubt that a-rich and extensive run of wash passes right thro\igli your ground as it does in the !(aland Block Company's Claim,■ because above the blacksmith's shop there' are three, ,and sometimes four, distinct leads of gold iivthe: valley, and .when we werewdrlnug on your area we followed only one lead, and never worked on the "south side of the Flat. None of the ground is more than 12ft above the level of the river. The whole of the drainage from the Island Block Company's Valley passes through your Claim, which insures Sou ample water. - . , . .
